444 - Resetting

Olá!

Happy 444. The first of 2025!

I hope your festive season is filling you with joy and time to relax.

444 is a monthly blog honouring the moments you act with your heart. Each visit, you will find something for me, for you, and for us.

Have this sent by email on the fourth at 4:44 from wherever I am in the world.

Today I'm writing to you from São Paulo airport in Brazil! My world is currently terminals and airplanes. It's the second pitstop of a 36-hour journey to Salvador from Australia.

4. Me - Resetting

I'm exploring what happens when I strip things back. I recently wrote a piece on my learnings from one year without alcohol

The break is teaching me cultivate a better relationship with myself. Sobriety doesn't feel like it needs to be a permanent thing for me. However, I'm noticing when I reduce the noise, I can listen to what's happening inside.

Read the post here.

Curiosity is building towards other detoxes. The next thing for me is technology.

Leaning into this creative journey, my screen time is rising. A window is coming up to disconnect. Ten days near the start of this trip. I'm hoping this will create early habits to switch off here.

I need to organise a few things to follow through. Booking accommodation, transport, even this.

The off-grid time overlaps with the next 444. So I've scheduled this during one of my layovers in Sao Paulo on Christmas Day.

Fingers crossed it comes through!

4. You - Breaking routine

It's interesting how a short break of routine can rewire our relationship with the world.

Is there a block in your year where you can take a break from something? It could be a weekend, a day, an afternoon.

What could you shuffle around in advance to ensure it happens?

4. Us - Quote

My long flight screened both Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. Two movies high on my watchlist.

I love watching the movies that influence others I like. The simplicity, reminders to be present, and thought-provoking conversations. It felt real.

A quote from Celine in the first movie stuck with me:

"If there's any kind of magic in the world, it must be in the attempt of understanding someone sharing something."

Keep spreading your magic.

Catch you next month,

Max
